2006 BROADCASTING SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

POLICY AND GUIDELINES

1.  Scholarships are awarded each year to students (preferably, but not limited to, second-semester sophomore status) attending colleges or universities in Kentucky .

2.  Award recipients must have established residency in Kentucky for the majority of the preceding year.

3.  To be eligible a scholarship candidate must declare a  broadcasting /telecommunications major in his or her college or university.

4.  The scholarships are renewable for a second year if the recipient maintains an overall 3.0 or better grade point average (based on a 4.0 GPA); remains a broadcasting /telecommunications major, and demonstrates a continuing desire to pursue a career in broadcasting.

5.  Each award recipient will be appropriately recognized by the  KBA as a scholarship recipient.  (The scholarship check will be mailed directly to the winner's school prior to the start of the fall semester).

6.  The original copy of an application is to be sent directly to the Kentucky Broadcasters Association scholarship committee chair, and another copy is to be sent to the college or university's broadcasting/telecommunications department chair.  The selection of two students will be made by representatives of the Kentucky Broadcasters Association.  Forms to be submitted for application include:  application filled out by student; college transcript; essay of 500 words or less giving a brief autobiographical sketch and discussion of goals for college and career; listing of extracurricular activities and scholarships; recommendation from a faculty member of the student's college or university.

7.  The recommendation of the faculty member is very important.

8.  The intent of this scholarship program is to encourage outstanding students to pursue a college degree and career in broadcasting.  Note that to renew the scholarship after the first year, the student must continue to major in broadcasting/telecommunications; maintain at least an overall 3.0 grade point average; and, demonstrate a desire to continue in broadcasting after graduation from college.  The renewal of the scholarship will be at the discretion of the college or university's scholarship committee, in consultation with the Kentucky Broadcasters Association, and renewal is subject to the availability of funds.

All forms required for this scholarship must be copied and mailed to the broadcasting /telecommunications department chair at the applicant's college or university, in addition to sending the original to the Kentucky Broadcasters Association (address listed above).
